A Note from Pastor Marilyn

Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,

Our long-awaited new parking lot and new Community Garden project are nearly upon us!  Plans are to begin the phased parking lot removal, grading and paving next week.  The entire project with the possible exception of some new landscape plantings in the front of the church is to be finished by Halloween.  Thank you for your patience as we become a construction zone for these next two months!

Worship this Sunday will be a Hymn Sing service created from your favorite hymns by the Worship Arts Center at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Des Presbyterian Church on Geyer Road.  This will be our last service at the Old Des Peres Church this summer.  We will not celebrate Communion this Sunday but will instead share it together on September 8.

I will be on vacation August 31-September 6 to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary September 4.  Our anniversary present to ourselves is closing on our new home that day!

I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!

 Shalom in Christ Jesus,

 Pastor Marilyn

Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,

If you’ve been in the main church parking lot this week you might have noticed that the Community Garden has been removed. This is the first phase of our new parking lot and Community Garden project this September and October. Plans are to begin the phased parking lot removal, grading and paving the first week of September. The entire project with the possible exception of some new landscape plantings in the front of the church is to be finished by Halloween. Thank you for your patience as we become a construction zone for these next two months!

Congratulations to Hannah Lewis and Eric Napady and their families as they get married this Saturday, August 24!

My sermon message this Sunday will be “Being Set Free” from Luke 13:10-17. This is the story of Jesus healing the woman bent over for 18 years.

I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!

Shalom in Christ Jesus,

Pastor Marilyn

Get Soccer Fever!

You probably have heard about professional soccer coming to STL in 2022. I’m really excited about the professional USL team that has been in St. Louis since 2014. Besides being a diehard Cardinals baseball fan, I like soccer too. I like a game that is 90 minutes long with a 15 minute intermission and no commercials! I like a stadium that is pretty close, it’s an intimate size and has good eats, a great beer selection and pretty cheap prices!

St Louis FC is holding its first annual Faith and Family Night when they play Atlanta United II on Saturday, September 28th. The game kicks off at 7:30

After the conclusion of the match, the post-game program will feature STLFC players including Captain Sam Fink and others, as well as Team Chaplain Jim Garvin, who will share their story about their faith. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated back to OASIS INTERNATIONAL.

So that we can sit together, please let me know how many tickets you would like. The tickets are $14 each and it covers a general admission ticket and the post-match program.

My deadline to turn in ticket money is 9/16/19. You can pay me by cash, check or Venmo. Contact Kathy Sherrick for more information.

The game is played at West Community Stadium at World Wide Technology Soccer Park, 1 Soccer Park Rd., Fenton, MO. That’s just off Interstate 44 near the Meramec River.

Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,

This Sunday is our annual Church in the Park, which this year will be at Kirkwood Park.  Worship is at 10:30 a.m. following by sharing food and fellowship together.  Membership Expansion is providing hamburgers, hot dogs, basic condiments, plates, utensils and bottled water.  You are asked to bring a side or dessert to share.

As part of our service this Sunday we will bless our children and youth and their backpacks as they begin or have begun a new school year.

My sermon message this Sunday will be “Watching Faithfully” from Luke 12:32-40.  Jesus teaches us to be ever ready to receive God’s blessings.

I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!

 Shalom in Christ Jesus,

 Pastor Marilyn

Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,

This Sunday my sermon message will be “Seeking God’s New Thing” from Isaiah 43:18-21 and John 21:1-17.  In the John text Jesus sends the disciples back out to fish from the other side of the boat.  As we go from worship into our “Summit on the Future” we will also be exploring what it might mean for us to “fish from the other side of the boat.”

Then following worship we will have our “Summit on the Future” which is the last event of our transitional journey in preparation for a team to write your mission and ministry study report for the Presbytery and seek permission to form a Pastor Nominating Committee to begin searching for your next called and installed pastor.  Lunch will be provided.

Also, this Sunday we will be the last Sunday Worship Arts will be collecting your favorite hymns for inclusion in our hymn sing worship service being planned for Sunday, September 1 at the Old Des Peres Church.

Looking ahead, I hope you have our Church in the Park at Kirkwood Park Sunday, August 18 on your calendars!  Membership Expansion is providing hamburgers, hot dogs, basic condiments, plates, utensils and bottled water.  You are asked to bring a side or dessert to share.  A sign-up sheet is in the Gathering Space to help with planning.

I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!

Shalom in Christ Jesus,

Pastor Marilyn
