A Note from Pastor Marilyn

Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,

I’m hoping we will be able to share updates on both our delayed Clayton Road church parking lot reconstruction and what we have done and are learning about the damage to our Old Meeting House during worship this Sunday.

My sermon message this Sunday will be “Seeking the Welfare of Our Community” from Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7.  In this Scripture God through Jeremiah encourages the people to make the best of their circumstances while living in exile from their homes and homeland.

We plan to pack 240 Buddy Packs following worship.  Many hands make light work – and it’s fun, too!

This Saturday, October 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church the Rev. Max Hill will be installed as the new UKirk pastor.  Max filled the pulpit for me one Sunday in September.  Please continue to keep Max and the UKirk campus ministry in your prayers as he serves with Washington University and St. Louis University students in our community.

Our next food packing day at Food Outreach is Saturday, October 19 at 8:00 a.m.    This is a lot of fun and makes a huge difference in the lives of the people receiving these hot entrees.  Please look for the signup in the Gathering Space this Sunday.

Mission and Ministry Center Erica Abbett will have a Minute for Mission during worship this Sunday to share with you several more opportunities to serve coming up in November.

I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!

 Shalom in Christ Jesus,

 Pastor Marilyn

A Note from Pastor Marilyn

Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,

Congratulations to the following members who accepted God’s calling and have been elected to serve on Faith Des Peres’ Pastor Nominating Committee

Erica Abbett

            Mary Dingus

            Angie Hiner

            Roy Lennox, Chair/Moderator

            Danny Mortimer

            Whitney Payne

            Kathy Sherrick

Please keep our PNC members in your prayers as they begin their confidential work seeking the next Pastor God is calling to come and serve with Faith Des Peres!

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday, an ecumenical observance launched by former General Assembly Moderator and Shadyside Presbyterian Church Pastor Hugh Thomson Kerr in 1933.  The original idea was to bring churches together in Christian unity through the communion meal.

My sermon message this World Communion Sunday will be “Walling In or Walling Out” from Luke 16:19-31.  This is the story of the rich man and Lazarus.  We will share communion using a special liturgy.

Since this is communion Sunday, please bring your non-perishable food items for our Feeding the Flock collection.

And reminder that Disciples Gathering will be this Sunday, October 6 rather than October 13.

Several of our choir members are singing in the annual Choir Festival at Manchester United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. this Sunday evening.  It promises to be a wonderful evening hearing the music of American composer Victor C. Johnson.  Our choir is singing pieces from Sunday night’s concert in our worship services these first two Sundays in October as well.

I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!

 Shalom in Christ Jesus,

 Pastor Marilyn

Annual Choral Festival this Sunday!

Sunday October 6th, the choir of Faith Des Peres is participating in an annual Choral Festival at Manchester UMC.  Located at 129 Woods Mill Road, Manchester, 63011 (near the intersection of Manchester Road and Highway 141) - this Festival will consist of many combined choirs, making joyful music in the wonderful space of this church.  The festival occupies choir time in the afternoon with rehearsals, and concludes with a public concert at 7:00 p.m.  You're invited, and you're also invited to invite your friends and                           colleagues.  The festival will consist of the music of Victor C. Johnson, an American composer who continues even today to offer wonderful music in service to the church.  In fact, today's anthem - "At This Table We Remember" - is one of his compositions.  Next week, we will sing another - "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing".  We hope to see you in the audience Sunday night 7:00 p.m. sharp, and wise to be a bit early to park (available on site) and settle in for what promises to be a beautiful occasion.

A Note from Pastor Marilyn

Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,

Barbara Abbett and I hope to be able to provide you with a good update on the construction progress during this Sunday’s called Congregation meeting.

The Presbytery’s Pastoral Transitions and Care Commission did approve Faith Des Peres’ Mission and Ministry Study Report and granted permission to form a Pastor Nominating Committee – Hallelujah!

The Session has called a Congregation meeting immediately following worship this Sunday, September 29 to elect members and a chairperson to the Pastor Nominating Committee.

My sermon message this Sunday will be “Being a Trustee of God’s Love” from Jeremiah 32:1-3a, 6-15.  This is the story of the prophet enacting God’s promise to return Judah and Israel to their homeland.

Looking ahead to Sunday, October 6, Worship Arts and I have planned a special celebration of communion for World Communion Sunday.

A reminder that Disciples Gathering will be October 6 rather than October 13.

I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!

Shalom in Christ Jesus,

 Pastor Marilyn
